Description:

What do you do when you see someone litter? Just give it some thought and you’ll probably come up with the same answer as I did. Right. You do nothing. You don’t say anything and maybe you don’t even think about it. Someone else will clean it up. Right? Right. Someone else almost always will. At a cost. But what if….

April 21 - the day, when in 1948 one of the US stores sold the very first Polaroid camera; the day, when in 1926 our beloved Elisabeth II celebrated her first birthday. These are pretty much all the more or less interesting facts I`ve digged about todays shiny day. In Latvia, however, we don`t celebrate either of these great events, so I didn`t find any reason not to participate in the Great Cleaning Saturday - which is a national voluntary work day and a part of the “World Cleanup 2012” initiative.

It's more than about cleaning up; it's about rediscovering ourselves and our communities. Here in Halifax we have such a diverse amount of people and cultures that live outside of one another despite living in the same community. Events such as the Clean Across Nova Scotia initiative aim to bring these people and groups together; to give them a common interest; a shared goal and show them that they have more in common as people than they do differences as cultures.

Keepin’ it clean

Description:
We’re so privileged to be surrounded by so much natural beauty in Nova Scotia, yet we continue to see garbage polluting our city streets, parks, and beaches. While we all try and reduce the amount of ’stuff’ we use, we must also mirror that action with proper disposal of the waste that we do create. I strongly believe in this and thought it was necessary to pass along this important message.
